I’ve always been a big Poe fan. But really, everybody likes Edgar Allen Poe, it’s like saying your a fan of the Beatles (which I’m not, thankfully). Despite this, I’ve always felt like I had a special connection with him. Everything I’ve ever written that I honestly think is worthwhile is a pale imitation of Poe’s style, what I love doing most is setting up a short story and controlling every detail so that the elements interact perfectly with one another and the conclusion is so inherent in the details that, looking back, no other ending could have been possible. Now, if I could just do that for more than 2 pages at a time, I might get somewhere, as Poe did. He is the master of the short story.
